Are you a licensed engineer who prefers being out in the field rather than sitting behind a desk all day?

Criterium-Yancy Engineers is looking for a Texas Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) who enjoys evaluating buildings, solving structural puzzles, and working directly with property owners and builders.

This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys hands-on inspections, variety in projects, and applying real-world engineering judgment across residential and commercial buildings.

Criterium-Yancy Engineers is a consulting engineering firm specializing in residential and commercial building inspections and consulting services throughout the Houston Metro area.

Since 1999, our team has:

  • Evaluated more than 8,500 buildings

Our engineers provide inspection and consulting services for:

What You Will Do

This role combines engineering expertise with field inspections. You will evaluate buildings, identify structural or system issues, and communicate findings clearly to clients.

Typical responsibilities include:

  • Conduct residential and commercial building inspections
  • Evaluate structural, mechanical, electrical, and construction conditions
  • Perform site visits and construction inspections
  • Document findings and prepare engineering reports
  • Communicate results with clients, property owners, and builders
  • Collaborate with internal engineering and administrative staff
  • Apply engineering judgment to diagnose structural and building issues

This position offers a combination of field work and report preparation, with a strong emphasis on site inspections.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in Texas
  • Interest in building construction, structures, and inspection work
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to communicate findings clearly in written reports
  • Ability to work independently and manage field schedules

Preferred Experience

Ideal candidates may also have experience with:

  • Structural engineering or building systems
  • Residential or commercial construction
  • Building codes and inspection processes
  • Engineering consulting or forensic engineering
  • Field inspections or construction site work

Candidates with 5–10 years of practical experience are encouraged to apply.

Physical Requirements

This position involves hands-on inspection work in the field, including:

  • Climbing ladders
  • Entering attics or crawlspaces
  • Walking construction sites
  • Carrying equipment up to 50 pounds

Applicants must be comfortable performing physical inspection tasks safely.
