About the role
OVERVIEW - This is an entry-level to intermediate-level position - A Medical Billing Specialist manages the healthcare revenue cycle by preparing and submitting insurance claims, following up on payments, handling denials, and billing patients for their portion, ensuring providers get paid accurately and efficiently by translating services into standardized codes, verifying insurance, and maintaining records in billing software, all while adhering to HIPAA Regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Claim Submission: Create and send claims to insurance companies (private, state, employer) for reimbursement.
- Data Entry: Entering patient and billing info accurately into software.
- Payment Follow-Up: Track claims, follow up on unpaid or denied claims, and submit appeals.
- Patient Billing & Collections: Generate patient invoices, discuss payments, and set up payment plans.
- Patient Communication: Answer patient billing questions, explain EOBs (Explanation of Benefits), and assist with financial solutions.
- Insurance Verification: Check patient eligibility and benefits with payors as needed and for follow up upon denial.
Essential Skills & Knowledge
- HIPAA Compliance: Protecting patient confidentiality.
- Software & Computer Proficiency: Using payor/billing systems.
- Communication: Interacting with patients, providers, and insurers professionally via telephone, email, chat, etc.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour
