Lead Data Engineer — London, Full-time
A fast-growing AI company is looking for its first senior data hire to own the entire data architecture. You'll build the pipelines, infrastructure, and ML data systems that power a platform already live with thousands of users — and help define how the data team grows from here.
What you'll do
- Architect and build scalable data pipelines for AI and product workloads
- Build and optimise vector search, retrieval, and ML data systems
- Own data reliability, quality, and observability across the platforms
- Work directly with founders and engineering, and help hire the future data team
What we're looking for
- 7+ years in data or backend engineering
- Strong Python skills
- Experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred) and NoSQL
- Hands-on with vector databases (Qdrant, Milvus, pgvector or similar
- Familiarity with Spark, Airflow, or Kafka
- Experience with AI or ML platforms is a plus
- High-ownership mindset — you enjoy building from scratch
