The Greater Michigan Construction Academy (GMCA) is looking for an experienced Industrial Maintenance Mechanic to join our instructional team. If you've built a successful career in industrial maintenance and enjoy mentoring others, this is an opportunity to make a lasting impact on the future workforce.
You don't need prior teaching experience. We'll provide the curriculum, training, and support to help you become a successful instructor.

About the Position
This part-time instructor will teach adult students through a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on lab activities. The curriculum covers topics including:
- Industrial maintenance fundamentals
- Piping components and piping practices
- Valve identification, installation, and maintenance
- High- and low-pressure steam systems
- Precision measuring tools
- Couplings and mechanical seals
- Conventional alignment
- Safe work practices and industry standards
Our instructors focus on helping students understand both the "how" and the "why" behind the work while developing the practical skills employers expect.
Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging classroom and hands-on instruction.
- Create a safe, organized, and positive learning environment.
- Prepare students for NCCER knowledge and performance assessments.
- Evaluate student progress and provide constructive feedback.
- Encourage professionalism, safety, and teamwork.
- Attend instructor meetings at the beginning of each semester.
- Complete required attendance, grading, and instructional documentation.
Qualifications
We're looking for someone who has:
- At least 4 years of industrial maintenance experience.
- Journeyman status or equivalent industry experience.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- A passion for mentoring and helping others learn.
- Commitment to workplace safety and high-quality workmanship.
Teaching experience is welcome but not required.
Schedule
- Part-time
- One evening per week
- 5:30 PM – 9:30 PM
- Additional paid preparation time as needed
