Custodian/Cleaner

Newman Early Learning Center is seeking a reliable, detail-oriented Part-Time Custodian/Cleaner to help maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment for our students and staff. This position plays a critical role in preparing classrooms and shared spaces for the next school day.

Description

Schedule:

• Monday–Friday - 4:30pm – 7:30pm
• Approximately 4 hours every weekend (Saturday or Sunday)

Responsibilities Include:

• Daily vacuuming and mopping of classrooms and common areas
• Cleaning and sanitizing bathrooms, classrooms, and high-touch surfaces
• Stacking chairs and closing down classrooms
• Gathering and taking out trash; resetting trash cans for the next day
• Running, unloading, and maintaining the dishwasher
• Ensuring blankets, linens, and cleaning cloths are properly laundered and stored
• Restocking paper products, soap, hand sanitizer, and other facility supplies as needed
• Organizing toys, classroom materials, and resource areas
• Cleaning and maintaining the kitchen and staff break areas
• Maintaining the cleanliness of entryways, hallways, offices, and common spaces
• Reporting maintenance concerns, safety hazards, or supply shortages to management promptly
• Completing and/or assisting with weekend and seasonal deep cleaning projects and classroom resets
• Following all licensing, health, sanitation, and infection-control procedures
• Maintaining overall cleanliness, organization, and appearance of the center
• Closing and securing the facility each evening/weekend, including locking all entrances, completing the end-of-day security check, and arming the alarm system
• Performing additional cleaning, sanitation, facility maintenance, and operational duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Dependable, punctual, and able to maintain a consistent work schedule
• Reliable transportation
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Ability to prioritize tasks and complete work efficiently
• Ability to lift up to 35–50 pounds and perform physical tasks including bending, kneeling, standing, reaching, and lifting throughout the shift
• Comfortable using cleaning equipment and products safely
• Knowledge of or willingness to follow all health, sanitation, and safety procedures
• Experience in custodial, housekeeping, or commercial cleaning preferred
• Experience working in a childcare, school, or healthcare setting is a plus

Salary

$17 - $18.5 per hour
