Duties Include
- Develops and updates lesson plans, researches curriculum content, and provides instruction regarding law enforcement practices and procedures for the MTU program.
- Prepares and updates student material. Maintains currency, accuracy, and relevancy of existing programs and training material in assigned areas of responsibility. Ensures current training materials support the necessary job-specific knowledge, skills, and abilities associated with the specific program task analysis.
- Observes and participates in the instruction of the Basic Law Enforcement (BLE) program to ensure consistency with field instruction.
- Performs law enforcement duties during times of critical incidents, whether natural or man-made crisis events requiring sworn personnel response. Required to do "ride-alongs" and assist other law enforcement agencies, as needed.
- High school diploma and eight (8) years of law enforcement experience or
- Associate degree and six (6) years of law enforcement experience or
- Bachelor’s degree and four (4) years of law enforcement experience or
- Master’s degree and two (2) years of law enforcement experience and
- Experience must include two (2) years of road experience and
- Basic Instructor Development (BID) or Specific Skill Instructor (SSI) certification and
- Currently certified S.C. Class 1 Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) or
- Currently certified LEO in another ***jurisdiction with full powers of arrest with the ability to become an S.C. LEO within one year of hire.
Salary
- The hiring salary is commensurate with full-time LEO instructional experience: $60,696-$66,000 .
- Two (2) years of experience writing lesson plans and/or developing training material.
- Defensive Tactics (DT) Instructor certification
- Firearms Instructor (FI) certification
- Driving Instructor (DI) certification
About You:
- Extensive knowledge of contemporary LE principles, practices, techniques, tactics, and methods .
- Able to research and develop comprehensive lesson plans in assigned training areas.
- Responsible for controlling all training delivery in assigned areas of instruction.
- Adheres to safety and testing procedures.
- Ability to speak and write clearly and effectively; analyze problems and make appropriate recommendations.
- Able to coordinate the work of students and enforce student discipline in a fair, but firm manner.
- Able to work effectively under general/limited supervision using individual discretion and prudent judgment.
- Work in a professional manner with others in a team environment to achieve common goals and objectives.
- Adhere to the chain-of-command and agency policies/procedures.
- Manage time effectively, completes administrative work, meets deadlines, problem solves, and accurately completes assignments.
- Maintain good physical condition to facilitate and conduct demonstrations.
- Available for frequent travel and field training or assisting other agencies requiring after hours, overnight and/or weekend duty.
